Namal urges President to act on allegations against Presidential Secretary

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has urged President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to take appropriate action over allegations concerning the Presidential Secretary, saying a response would demonstrate the Government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

Addressing a public meeting in Kuliyapitiya on August 22, Rajapaksa said the President had repeatedly pledged to combat corruption and called on him to demonstrate that commitment by addressing the allegations.

“The President speaks about catching thieves and ensuring honesty. This is an opportunity to demonstrate that commitment. We are waiting to see what action will be taken regarding the allegations concerning the Presidential Secretary,” he said.

Rajapaksa also criticised the Government over what he described as its failure to deliver on promises made to farmers, graduates and young people during the election campaign.

He said farmers were facing difficulties due to low paddy prices, while consumers were struggling with high rice prices. He also raised concerns over the tax burden on the public and rising electricity and fuel costs, claiming that businesses, particularly young entrepreneurs, were finding it increasingly difficult to operate.

The SLPP parliamentarian further called for proper investigations into alleged security and cyber incidents involving State institutions, saying those responsible should be identified.

He urged the Government to focus on addressing the concerns of farmers, graduates, young people and businesses instead of engaging in political confrontation.

“The Government should set aside confrontation and focus on working for the people. The public expects solutions to their problems, not further political disputes,” he said.

Rajapaksa also rejected allegations that the Opposition was responsible for incidents involving containers at the Colombo Port, arguing that the Opposition had no authority to influence port operations.

He called on the Government to investigate all allegations of wrongdoing transparently and take appropriate action based on the findings.
