The Ministry of Health states that work is currently under way to improve emergency treatment and primary care units in 82 base hospitals selected under provincial councils and the central government.
The Ministry mentioned that this is expected to be carried out under a new project scheduled to be implemented under the Asian Development Bank.
These details were revealed yesterday (22) during a one-day training programme on emergency care services held at the auditorium of the Chilaw District General Hospital for staff engaged in emergency treatment services in base and regional hospitals as well as primary care units in the Puttalam District of the North Western Province.
The training programme was held with the aim of strengthening emergency treatment services by coordinating emergency treatment units of primary care centres with hospitals providing tertiary and secondary care services, and Director General of Health Services Dr Asela Gunawardena also joined its inaugural occasion.
The Ministry of Health mentioned that this training programme was prepared with the aim of developing knowledge and skills related to emergency treatment services among around 180 medical and nursing staff engaged in treatment services in primary care units of all base hospitals and regional hospitals including the Chilaw District General Hospital in the Puttalam District.
Director General of Health Services Dr Asela Gunawardena pointed out here that many issues and challenges arose at present due to following various methods when providing emergency treatment services in health institutions, and that situations exist where various allegations and complaints are presented by the public regarding emergency treatment services.
Accordingly, he further stated that the main objective of this initiative is to protect the lives of all people arriving to obtain treatment services through implementing emergency treatment services according to a standardized and single methodology within all health institutions in the country.
