Sehandu Dulneth Fernando of D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo, will represent Sri Lanka at the 2026 World Cadet Chess Cup, one of the world's premier youth chess tournaments, competing in the Under-10 category.
The tournament will be held in Batumi, Georgia, from June 15 to 28, bringing together young chess players from 67 countries.
Sehandu secured his place at the global event following an outstanding performance at the recently concluded Sri Lanka National Youth Chess Championship.
A consistent performer at both national and international level, he previously achieved 10th place in the Under-07 category at the 2023 World School Chess Championship in Greece.
He has also represented Sri Lanka at the 2024 Western Asian Youth Chess Championship and the 2024 and 2026 Commonwealth Chess Championships.
Adding to his achievements, Sehandu has qualified for the upcoming Asian Youth Chess Championship, which will be held in China next month.
