Iran and Sri Lanka discuss regional tensions and maritime recovery

The Iranian Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, has held talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart, Vijitha Herath, to address escalating regional instability and bilateral cooperation.

During a telephone call on Friday evening, Seyed Abbas Araghchi briefed the Sri Lankan minister on the current situation in the Middle East. He specifically detailed the aftermath of what Tehran has characterised as military aggression by Israel and the United States against Iranian interests.

The discussion also focused on the recovery efforts following the attack on the Iranian warship Dena on the 4th of March. Araghchi expressed his formal gratitude to the Sri Lankan government for their assistance in rescuing surviving crew members and facilitating the repatriation of 84 sailors killed in the incident.

According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the two ministers concluded the call by reviewing ongoing diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.
