This year’s state Vesak festival will be held in Hambantota from Wednesday (18th) to next Tuesday (24th). It will be held centering the Nayigala Rajamaha temple in Weeraketiya.
It is reported that the inauguration of the event will be held at the Kasagala Rajamaha Viharaya on Wednesday, with the ordination of 35 laymen.
Meanwhile, several religious programs are due to be held on Thursday (19th) and Friday (20th) at the Nayigala temple. The full day Sil observations will be held on the Vesak Poya Day (21st).
The main event held on Sunday (22nd) at the Nayigala temple will be graced by President Maithripala Sirisena.
According to state officials the president will grant financial provisions, by the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, amounting to Rs. 29.1 million to temples and dhamma schools in the area.
The Buddha Sasana Ministry will also hand over a fund of Rs. 9 million to the Nayigala Rajamaha temple, while a Vesak commemorative stamp, declaring the temple as a sacred place, will also be unveiled during the event.
