Mayor of Hambantota Eraj Fernando who sentenced to rigorous imprisonment has been granted bail.
When an appeal he had submitted was taken up for hearing in the presence of Hambantota High Court Judge Thamara Tennakone today, the Judge ordered that Eraj Fernando be released on cash bail of one hundred thousand rupees and 5 surety bails of Rs. 1 million each.
A ban on travel abroad was also imposed on the Mayor.
The Hambantota High Court recently imposed a sentence of rigorous imprisonment on the Mayor of Hambantota Eraj Fernando for having attacked with rocks and stones and threatening with a toy pistol, a group of United National Party parliamentarians who engaged in an observation tour of the Hambantota Ports Complex on 17 April 2014.
