The marine drive section near Bambalapitiya railway station has been temporarily closed following the demolition of the dilapidated passenger flyover. This closure has raised concerns among the public, as it may significantly affect weekday traffic in the area.
The decision to demolish the deteriorating passenger flyover was prompted by a report from Hiru News, highlighting the poor condition of the structure. President Ranil Wickremesinghe took special notice of the matter and directed relevant departments to construct a new passenger flyover in the same location within a span of five months.
As a temporary measure, a stepped access road has been constructed to provide continued access to the flyover, for the people to have an alternative route during the reconstruction process.
