The Department of Meteorology has issued a statement warning that atmospheric conditions are currently favourable for the development of thundershowers in the evening.
The Department urged the public to take necessary steps to minimise danger from strong winds and powerful lightning that can accompany heavy rain.
Showers or thundershowers are expected in many areas of the island after 1 p.m. Some places in the Northern, North Central, Eastern, Central, and Uva provinces could experience fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm, the statement added.
