A 17-year-old driver died after police opened fire on a van that allegedly ignored orders to stop in the Allaipiddy area of Jaffna.
Police officers on duty reportedly signalled the vehicle to stop while it travelled through the area with three occupants. When the driver allegedly bypassed the signals and continued driving, officers discharged their weapons.
While the teenage driver passed away from the injuries, two other individuals from Nallur and Vaddukoddai who travelled in the same vehicle were taken into custody by the Kayts Police. Authorities are currently conducting investigations, and the suspects will appear before the court.
