Sri Lanka forms expert unit to tackle public sector misconduct

The Sri Lankan government has established a dedicated pool of investigation officers to fast-track inquiries into corruption and misconduct within the public sector.

The move follows a surge in complaints that overwhelmed the existing twenty-person unit at the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government. To address the backlog, authorities have selected one hundred and fifty officers from various state departments and corporations to undergo intensive professional training.

Deputy Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, Ruwan Senarath, presided over the first graduation ceremony in Narahenpita, where the initial forty-two officers received their credentials. These specialists will now be deployed across ministries and boards to lead internal probes and handle external cases referred by the Public Service Commission and parliamentary oversight committees.
