A special traffic plan will operate tomorrow, May 1, due to May Day rallies scheduled around Colombo city.
All vehicles entering Colombo from the Homagama direction for the National People’s Power rally in Maharagama can turn left at the Maharagama clock tower, travel towards Boralasgamuwa junction, and enter Colombo via Kohuwala.
Heavy vehicles arriving from Homagama can travel from Pannipitiya junction towards Thalawathugoda and enter Colombo through Rajagiriya.
Police state that if traffic congestion becomes excessive, vehicles will not be allowed to enter the Colombo High Level road from Panagoda junction and should instead use the Low Level road.
When leaving Colombo, vehicles travelling from Borella towards Maharagama on the High Level road must turn right at Delkanda junction, proceed through Ratnapitiya junction and Boralasgamuwa junction, and reach the Maharagama clock tower to travel towards Homagama.
Heavy vehicles leaving Colombo must travel under the Nugegoda flyover to Kohuwala junction and proceed via Boralasgamuwa junction to the Maharagama clock tower.
Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Western Province Traffic Division, W. P. J. Senadheera, mentioned that special police security has been deployed to cover the May Day celebrations.
