CID launches probe into treasury electronics

A special investigation into electronic items at the General Treasury commenced by the Criminal Investigation Department, according to Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wuttler. Computers, laptops, telephones, SIM cards, and other electronic devices face inspection, as the spokesperson informed Hiru News.

This investigation follows an incident where 2.5 million US dollars from the General Treasury reached a third party. Health and Media Minister Doctor Nalinda Jayatissa stated that inquiries across all sectors began regarding the matter.

The Free Lawyers Organisation is requesting a public meeting of the Committee on Public Accounts during the upcoming parliamentary session to initiate an inquiry with the Auditor General into the controversial transaction. In a letter to Committee Chairman Member of Parliament Kabir Hashim, the organisation pointed out that while the matter reached the Finance Committee's attention, the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance received a one-month postponement.

Nearly two weeks passed since the revelation that 2.5 million US dollars from the General Treasury reached a third party.
