The foreign ministers of Japan and India have agreed to work together to ensure safe maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and maintain stable energy supplies.
The agreement was reached during bilateral discussions held alongside the Japanese Foreign Minister’s visit to India.
Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu visited India yesterday to attend the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, involving Japan, India, the United States, and Australia.
During the visit, he held talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
At the meeting, Jaishankar expressed confidence that relations between India and Japan would continue to strengthen.
Motegi stressed that both countries should play a leading role in efforts to create a free and open Indo-Pacific region, highlighting the importance of close Japan-India coordination.
The ministers also agreed to accelerate cooperation in economic security, including strengthening supply chains for essential goods.
They further reaffirmed commitments to deepen cooperation in defence, security, and people-to-people exchanges.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Middle East situation and agreed to cooperate on issues including ensuring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, stable energy supplies, and securing essential commodities.
