The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release on bail of a man who was allegedly caught bringing alcohol to visit former Member of Parliament Mahindananda Aluthgamage, who is currently detained at Welikada Prison.
The suspect was released on two surety bails of Rs. 200,000 each.
The suspect, who was initially arrested by prison officials, was handed over to the Borella Police.
Reports say the man attempted to smuggle liquor into the prison by concealing it in soft drink bottles, but was arrested by prison officers during the attempt.
He was later produced before court and released on bail yesterday (31).
Police said he was arrested while attempting to take prohibited liquid substances into the prison.
The case is scheduled to be called again tomorrow (02) before the Chief Magistrate after charges are filed.
