Yasara Abeynayake appears in court to testify in Yoshitha's case

Yasara Abeynayake provided evidence before the Colombo High Court today (09) regarding the case filed against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son, Yoshitha Rajapaksa, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The case was called today (09) before Colombo High Court Judge Udesh Ranasinghe.

Six witnesses appeared before the court based on summons issued to provide evidence for the prosecution. Accordingly, four individuals, including Yasara Abeynayake, Wasantha Jayasuriya, and Edna Lucian Rathnayake, gave evidence.

Further examination of evidence was deferred until 17 July, and the Judge issued summons ordering another 13 witnesses to appear before the court on that date.

Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara and State Counsel Oswald Lakshman Perera led the evidence for the prosecution.

A legal team, including President’s Counsel Sampath Mendis, appeared for the defendant.

The Attorney General filed this case against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, accusing him of committing an offence under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act through the illegal acquisition of five plots of land valued at over 73 million rupees.
