The Disaster Management Centre stated through a notice that drinking water was distributed to 72,153 individuals belonging to 23,048 families during the 24 hours that ended at 6:00 a.m. today (23).
It was reported that the Nachchaduwa Wewa in Anuradhapura also dried up due to the prevailing dry weather conditions.
Meanwhile, along with the prevailing dry weather, several chilli cultivations in the Pandiketuwa area of Anuradhapura faced destruction without water.
Residents also say that several watermelon and pumpkin cultivations in the Mawatawewa area of Thirappane face the threat of drying up.
Due to the dry weather condition affecting the Polonnaruwa District, the people of the Rathmale area in Hingurakgoda, Polonnaruwa are facing severe distress due to the destruction of their crops.
The Gonamalayawa Wewa located in the village is also drying up currently, and villagers point out that wild animals are also facing distress as a result.
Meanwhile, due to the prevailing dry weather, the people of the Lehediyangala Diyawara village in the Wilgamuwa Divisional Secretariat division of Matale are facing a severe drinking water shortage these days.
The people of this village, where about 500 families reside, request authorities to provide a water purification project or a speedy solution to their village.
Furthermore, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board expressed that solutions can be provided in the future to the water issue existing in the Batticaloa District under the prevailing dry weather condition.
Its Chairman Engineer Chandana Bandara stated that water supply is currently restricted in certain areas of the Batticaloa District, executing a water cut of about 04 hours per day.
In addition, he stated that water is distributed using bowsers to the Bibile and Medagama areas of the Monaragala District.
The Department of Meteorology expressed that the warmth felt by the human body in several provinces and districts of the island remains at an attention level today as well.
Accordingly, the temperature will rise in this manner in the Eastern and North Central provinces, and the Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Monaragala districts.
