Melwa partners IESL to champion women in engineering through WiNE Forum 2026

Melwa, one of Sri Lanka's leading steel manufacturers and engineering solutions providers, partnered with the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) to support the WiNE Forum 2026, organised in celebration of International Women in Engineering Day.


The initiative highlighted the growing contribution of women to Sri Lanka's engineering profession while promoting greater female participation in engineering, innovation and entrepreneurship. The forum brought together school students, engineering undergraduates, academics and industry professionals for a day of knowledge sharing, networking and leadership discussions.


The programme featured three dedicated sessions designed to inspire future engineers and strengthen professional collaboration within the industry. The morning sessions focused on school students and university undergraduates, providing exposure to engineering career opportunities and practical insights from experienced professionals.


A highlight of the event was the panel discussion titled “Engineering a Resilient Future: Leadership Insights From Women Shaping Tomorrow.”


The session featured Executive Director and CEO of Tudawe Brothers Romali Tudawe, Prime Group Executive Director Shehana Brahmanage, University of Moratuwa Professor Lidula Widhanagamage Aarachchige and CECB Assistant General Manager Eng. Tharangika Jayasundara. Moderated by Professor Niranjanie Ratnayake, the discussion examined leadership, resilience, innovation and the importance of fostering greater diversity across Sri Lanka's engineering sector.


Melwa said its support for the forum reflects the company's broader commitment to developing engineering talent and creating opportunities for the next generation of professionals.The company believes that encouraging greater participation of women in engineering will strengthen innovation, improve industry competitiveness and contribute to sustainable national development.
