A 10-year-old boy lost his life after falling into an unprotected cultivation well in the Kiribamunegama Yaya area of the Polpithigama police division. The incident occurred yesterday (08) evening, involving a child who was a resident of Sembukuliyawa, Kekirawa.
Police investigations revealed that the boy was playing behind his house when he fell into the well located on the premises. Although residents acted quickly to pull the child out of the water, he was already deceased.
The Polpithigama Police initiated a further investigation into the matter following notification of the tragedy. An inquest and a post-mortem examination are scheduled to be conducted.
