A garage owner was arrested by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) along with a stock of foreign-made firearms and live ammunition hidden in a two-story house in the Welivita area of Kaduwela. The police stated that the raid was conducted based on a search warrant obtained from the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court following a tip-off received by the CCD intelligence unit.
Officers discovered the weaponry sophisticatedly concealed in an upstairs room of the suspect's residence. The seized items include a foreign-made repeater firearm, a 12-bore double-barrel shotgun, 15 rounds of 12-bore live ammunition, 50 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, and two 0.22 caliber rifle bullets.
During initial questioning, the suspect claimed the firearms were inherited from his father. However, police suspect whether these weapons were used in prior crimes or intended for supply to organised criminal gangs. Further investigations are being conducted by a team including Sub-Inspector P.M.B. Rasanjana under the instructions of CCD OIC Chief Inspector Bandara Wijetunga.
