Number of dengue patients reaches 50,000 nationwide

Dengue cases in Sri Lanka are close to reaching the 50,000 mark following a significant surge in infections across the country.

The latest data from the National Dengue Control Unit reveals that 48,287 cases have been recorded up to Tuesday.

The figures highlight a sharp increase this month alone, with 14,446 cases reported during June up to Tuesday.

The Western Province remains the worst-affected region, with Colombo district accounting for 10,085 of those infections.

Twenty-nine deaths have been confirmed from the virus so far.
